MySQL – Open Thread

Who’s providing MySQL services on campus? How are you solving your MySQL needs now? How are other large universities addressing this issue? “Add a Comment” below to share your thoughts, link to any resources, etc.

September Meeting – MySQL/LAMP Support at UNC

One of the most popular meeting topic ideas has centered on campus options for MySQL support and other LAMP services. I imagine many of us are familiar with a scenario like the following: “I’m setting up a WordPress (or Drupal, Joomla, PHP-based web app, etc.) site and not sure who can provide database support.” Folks want to know what options are available on campus, off campus, and so on.

Let’s tackle this one for our September meeting.

Also, the university’s Chief Technology Officer, Michael Barker, may be joining us for the meeting. Mike can speak to where ITS is in terms of offering MySQL as a service and answer questions.

No presentation this time — more of a roundtable conversation. Bring your questions, ideas, and suggestions.

Location: Grad Student Center
Date: Thursday, September 2
Time: 2:00p.m. – 3:00p.m.

Webmasters Survey

Webmasters, as many of you know Robert Kraus has put together a survey.  The goal is to learn more about each other. Where do we work? What do we do? What special web-related skills can we share with others? This information can help us support each other during a time of dwindling funds for training.

A few things to consider:

  • You do not need to complete it in one sitting ( finish later as long as you do so within a week)
  • Feel free to email this to whomever you feel should be invited and may not officially be apart of the Webmasters list
  • Survey will be up until Oct 16, 2009

Take the survey (Password: webmaster)
