ITS Virtual Labs

  • Research Computing offers a virtualization service called the Virtual Computing Lab (VCL).
  • Originally developed by N.C. State University in collaboration with IBM, the VCL provides users with anytime, anywhere access to custom application environments created specifically for their use.

TarHeels Live

  • Tarheels.live is a web publishing service that allows anyone with an Onyen to create their own website at no charge.

Qualys

  • Qualys is the vulnerability scan tool used by UNC Chapel Hill. The tool is managed by the Information Security Office.

  • Siteimprove is an easy-to-use website accessibility scanning tool. It evaluates how accessible your website is and shows you how to make it better. You can improve and track accessibility and content issues using Siteimprove’s robust report and dashboard features. Siteimprove is available for any UNC-Chapel Hill website.

ITS Service Status

URL Link Shortener (go.unc.edu)

  • Campus-managed service to provide shortened URLs with a UNC domain.
  • Interface allows you to manage your shortened URLs, request new URLs, and ask for help if issues arise.
  • Automatically generates QR code as well.

LDAP and Active Directory

  • The Identity and Access Management team administers the LDAP/Active Directory, SSO, and other services on campus.
  • PID lookup tool (Replace the PID value with an actual user’s PID for results.)

Shibboleth/SSO

  • Campus-managed SSO using Shibboleth.
  • Allows a space to include authentication of Onyen/Passwords without having to verify in code or on page.

InCommon SSL Certificates

  • UNC-Chapel Hill has partnered with the InCommon Certificate Service to provide SSL certificates to University units.
  • This service is free to all UNC-Chapel Hill units and allows for unlimited SSL certificates to members of the University.

UNC LastPass

  • UNC-Chapel Hill has partnered with LastPass to bring you LastPass Premium for storing and sharing your passwords.
  • LastPass is a secure password manager that remembers your passwords for you. With LastPass Premium, you get unlimited sync across all your devices so you always have your passwords with you.
