I am often asked about the Flash banners and interface objects I create and embed into websites. Most of the time, the Flash animations I create don’t really need to be modified all that often and if they do, can be done in the source FLA with a minimal amount of work. However, sometimes you need a little more control over the Flash animation without needing to A.) recompile the SWF, B.) increase the filesize of the SWF, and C.) be a Flash developer (for those of you who will be developing for others). Prior to working at UNC, I have worked with WordPress from a design standpoint. However, now that I am here at UNC, I do a lot more work with the content that actually goes into the system. One thing that I have noticed is that the majority of the posters that I come in contact with fail to split their posts up into “introductory” and “expanded” chunks of text. Maybe it is because they really like having their entire posts available on their homepage, or maybe they just don’t know about WordPress’ page break tool called the <!–more–> tag.
Checked out edustyle? The site is described as a “web design gallery dedicated to higher education websites and powered by higher education web design professionals. Users submit, review, and comment on sites they like (or don’t like). The aim is for higher ed web professionals to learn from and be inspired by the work of their peers. Once a month two sites are selected as Noteworthy based on user votes and feedback.” Consider me inspired. Some of the featured work–particularly from smaller liberal arts schools and seminaries–is exceptional. Some crowd pleasers:
